8TH SEASON PREVIEW
Creatures of Emotion

Cleveland, OH 44106

In this exciting sneak peek into ENCORE Chamber Music Institutes 8th season, Artistic Director Jinjoo Cho joins forces with pianist Hyunsoo Kim for an evening of Music & Ideas.

ENCORE’s Music & Ideas festival is a rapidly growing cultural phenomenon in Northeast Ohio, creating a space for larger vibrant conversations through the lens of chamber music. ENCORE aims to strengthen Cleveland’s thriving classical music scene by pairing TED talk style lectures and conversation with every concert - connecting other cultural aspects with music through a central theme, therefore drawing more attention from those who may not otherwise attend a chamber music concert.

Taken from author Dale Carnegie’s famous saying, the theme Creatures of Emotion is an artistic exploration of the brain and how humans experience and express emotion.

Ms. Cho’s pre-concert conversation will invite the audience to engage in a thought-provoking discussion about how music affects the brain and our emotions - not just playing music, but listening to, being surrounded by, and studying music. How exactly does music affect our wellness? During her discussion, Ms. Cho will reveal some of ENCORE's 2023 speakers who will guide our audience in answering this question.

In addition to her concert career, Jinjoo is passionate about performing in non-traditional venues such as hospitals, schools, senior homes, youth programs, and cafes, and finds joy in sharing music with people who may not have experienced live classical music. Most recently, Jinjoo was invited to serve as jury member at major international competitions. She served on the jury panel of the 2022 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, preliminary screening committee of the 2018 and 2023 Concours musical international de Montréal, and is scheduled to serve on the jury panel of the 2024 Schoenfeld International String Competition.
